Creating a luxury home that feels both open and intimate can be a challenge. Homeowners often want to divide spaces for privacy or function without losing the sense of connection between rooms. In a recent project, we faced this exact challenge. Our clients wanted a unique solution that would allow them to separate living areas when needed but also open up the space for entertaining. The answer came in the form of a bespoke movable glass wall system, adapted from commercial use and tailored to fit a high-end residential setting. Alongside this, we designed a modern kitchen and scullery that complement the living space while adding style and practicality.

The Challenge of Dividing Without Isolating
Luxury homes often feature large open-plan living areas. While this design promotes flow and light, it can sometimes lack the flexibility homeowners desire. Our clients wanted to create distinct zones for different activities—relaxing, dining, cooking—without building permanent walls that would block light or conversation.
Traditional walls or bulky partitions would have disrupted the openness and elegance of the space. The goal was to find a solution that could:
Separate spaces when privacy or noise control was needed
Open fully to create a large, unified area for gatherings
Serve as a design feature, not just a functional element
Adapting a Commercial Solution for Residential Luxury
We found inspiration in commercial movable glass wall systems, often used in offices or hotels to create flexible meeting spaces. These systems are sleek, functional, and allow for easy opening and closing. However, they are rarely designed with residential aesthetics in mind.
Our team adapted this concept by customizing the system to fit the scale and style of a luxury home. The glass panels were enhanced with laser cut alloy screens that add texture and visual interest. This detail transforms the wall from a simple divider into a statement piece.
The system folds neatly to one side, disappearing when not in use. This means the entire living area can open up instantly for a party or family gathering.

Three Functions in One Design
This bespoke movable glass wall serves multiple purposes:
Separation: It creates distinct zones without the heaviness of solid walls.
Unification: When folded away, it opens the space completely.
Decoration: The laser cut alloy screens add a layer of artistry and exclusivity.
This multifunctional approach ensures the wall is both practical and beautiful.
Kitchen and Scullery Design That Complements the Space
Adjacent to the living area, the kitchen and scullery were designed to blend seamlessly with the overall layout. The kitchen sits in the corner of the large L-shaped living space, making it accessible yet unobtrusive.

A lighting canopy above the kitchen island not only provides essential illumination but also acts as a subtle boundary, defining the kitchen area without walls or barriers.
The scullery, hidden behind bespoke barn doors, offers a practical space for food prep and storage. These doors are not ordinary—they feature the same laser cut alloy screens as the glass wall, turning a functional element into a design highlight.
Barn Doors That Attract Attention

Instead of hiding the scullery behind plain doors, we designed barn doors that invite curiosity. The laser cut screens give the doors a unique texture and pattern, making them a focal point rather than something to be concealed.
This approach respects the client’s desire to block what should not be seen, while still making the doors part of the home's artistic expression.
Bringing Nature Inside with Thoughtful Details
One of the standout features in the kitchen is the window splashback that looks onto a natural greenery wall outside. This view brings a sense of calm and freshness into the space.
To enhance this connection with nature, the splashbacks on either side of the kitchen also use glass that reflects the greenery. This creates a subtle, immersive effect that ties the interior to the outdoors.
Practical Benefits of the Movable Glass Wall System
Beyond aesthetics, the movable glass wall offers several practical advantages:
Flexibility: Easily switch between open and closed layouts depending on the occasion.
Light Flow: Glass panels allow natural light to pass through, keeping spaces bright.
Sound Control: When closed, the wall helps reduce noise between zones.
Space Saving: The folding mechanism tucks the wall away neatly, avoiding bulky partitions.
These benefits make the system ideal for modern luxury homes where adaptability is key.

How This Design Inspires Future Renovations
This project shows how commercial solutions can be reimagined for residential use, creating homes that are both functional and visually striking. The combination of bespoke elements—like the laser cut screens and barn doors—with practical features like the movable glass wall and scullery design, results in a space that feels tailored to the client’s lifestyle.
For homeowners considering renovations, this approach offers several takeaways:
Look beyond traditional room dividers to find flexible, stylish options.
Use decorative elements to elevate functional features.
Connect indoor spaces with nature through thoughtful window and material choices.
Design kitchens and service areas that blend with living spaces but maintain privacy.
